the return of dr. octagon
...has been delayed at least slightly.
The Kool Keith show scheduled for the Biltmore tonight has been canceled. Timbre says they're trying to reschedule, but there's not date yet, so ticket holders are advised to seek refunds at your point of purchase.
Also, this is a good time to point out that Fan Death are at the Astoria tonight. I missed that one earlier. Sorry.

This week for Damaged Goods, I invited one of my favourite bands back to play, because if I don't get a Fine Mist fix about once every three weeks, I just don't feel right.
Afterwards (and yes, you can do both since they go late), my friend Aisha is teaming up with Lief from Myths to start a new Friday at Roy G. Biv, which they've christened Deadbeatz. Scroll down for the inaugural line-up, which looks pretty good, below.

nothing for me
Just a heads up (a little late, but I was making dinner) that Karl Blau and David Jaberi got held up at the border, so the early show at the Shed tonight is off. If you were planning on heading down though, Rose Melberg & Nick Krgovich and Adrian Teacher are still going to play.
I'm not actually sure if they got totally denied or just delayed, so the Pat's show might (hopefully) be on. I'll update if I hear.

in the morning
This weekend, I managed to catch both Timecopz, who rocked Damaged Goods and one of my favourite bands, Fine Mist, at Glory Days.
The DJ-night-with-band weeklies are always a bit weird, since the audience is sort of captive (I mean, you can go outside for a breather/smoke or move back, but you're probably not going to walk out completely), but there's a decent chance they didn't show up just to see the band perform. With that in mind, it's always interesting to see how many people who clearly didn't come for the live portion of the evening that a band can draw towards the stage and engage. And on Friday and Saturday, both bands did a pretty good job of that.

Happy New Year, Internet.
Things are getting back to normal on the weekly/monthly front, so there's quite a bit too pick from including a couple of my faves. Koban's (who you may have known as Manta Ray-Gun) rounding out a three band bill at Discorder's monthly show at the Astoria on Wednesday and Fine Mist plays Glory Days on Saturday.
Also, note that No More Strangers is back at Funky Winkerbean's.
And, don't forget to tune in or set your PVRs, because Japandroids will be sharing a stage with the Roots tonight, because they're the musical guest on Jimmy Fallon. If you want a preview, Questlove tweeted a video of their soundcheck.
