pink night

Jason Collett is at the Van East Cultural Centre on October 3rd. I - like everyone else - am quite fond of the new TVotR... but I'm seriously considering selling my ticket and getting one to this instead.

For those who like their music spontaneous, Damo Suzuki is at the ANZA on September 7th. (thanks Kara)

Also on September 7th, if you prefer your compositions a touch more traditional, Blood Meridian plays the Gallery Lounge out at UBC with Leeroy Stagger.

Mew is at the Commodore on October 15th, as a couple people have kindly mentioned... but they're opening for Kasabian. You Mew fans have my condolences.

Andrew Bird has an added early show to compliment his already scheduled late show at the Media Club on September 29th. This means you could now conceivably see Andrew and then either Danny Michel or Billy Bragg/Geoff Berner, which would be one hell of a night of singer/songwriters.

Speaking of Danny Michel, Lullaby Baxter, who got Pitchforked today, is opening his September 28th show.

Stylus reviewed Ladyhawk. Grunge? huh?

Finally, I found this amusing: make your own concert ticket (via Stereogum)

Stylus: Making Pitchfork look good since 2005!

And in case you missed it, you and I got mentions in Chromewaves today...he cited us as examples of blogs that "have their ears pressed far closer to the ground" than he does (in terms of Canadian indie rock). Go us!

hahaha... I saw that. I think Frank meant in terms of local scenes in particular. I actually sort of wonder if some of the gusto behind some of the bands I champion is because they're local.

I actually usually like Stylus better than PFork

Dudes, I just don't understand the Kasabian hate! I can understand not liking them, but it feels so extreme.

:( :( :(

Jason Collett is a disaster live ... like usually terrible. go for TVOTR.

By Blogger Graham, at 4:04 PM

dude... ive seen him 3 times.. he was great... scratch that 4 times.

By Blogger Quinn, at 7:23 PM

anybody want to break the tie... I can't decide between TVOTR and Jason Collett

By Anonymous Jason, at 8:15 PM

I used to like Stylus, before they had their makeover (in look and in attitude)...ever since then, I've had a hard time thinking of them as anything other than a wannabe-Pitchfork.

I can say with some certainty that the local bands I champion aren't getting any hometown bias...though given the awfulness I have to wade through to find them, I may be a little more enthusiastic about them than I would be for a lot of other bands.
