spinning and scratching
Way back in January, Rob Vanmega dropped the gauntlet, providing me and some other internet folk with some mixmaking software, and putting out a blogger fake dj challenge. Well, I finally did one. The transitions get really rough near the end. You've been warned.

Camera Obscura are at the Plaza on July 24th. Let's Get Out Of This Country just might be my favourite record so far this year, and the title track is definitely one of my favourite songs of 2006.
You may recall that a little band called Broken Social Scene is opening for a guy named Sam Roberts the day after. You might also be excited to know that Sam's Montreal buddies, the Stills, will also be joining the party, with more guests still to come.
The Rentals are back together! Matt Sharp will lead his reformed band at Richard's on the same day as the Sam/BSS/Stills extravaganza.
Head over to Section Two to check out four live Akron/Family videos. If you were at their March show at the Media Club, you already know how amazing they are live.
My Old Kentucky Blog is on a covers tear. So far, he's done whole sets of covers of Don't Fear The Reaper, God Only Knows, In The Aeroplane, Over The Sea, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, When You Were Mine, and one of my all time favourite songs, Love Will Tear Us Apart. The covers vary in quality, but I can say that, without a doubt, that guy from Fall Out Boy should be punished somehow for butchering Joy Division.
now playing: Ryan Adams - Do Miss America

You wanted the BSS/Sam Roberts presale info, no?
It starts today at 10:00 for HOB.ca members, tix are $36.50 +
99.3 The Fox presale password:
CHEMICAL
(like that was hard to guess).
HOB.ca says tickets will also be available at Zulu and Scratch. I'm getting my tickets from Zulu, f**k Ticketmaster.
Sam Roberts, BSS, and The Stills! With more guests still to come?? If Metric gets added, I will be in heaven!
Metric ain't going to be added to that bill...but i'm sure you'll see them later the in summer. Jason Collett would be a logical addition however...
Deer Lake holds 8,000 ppl, and as fantastic a show as this is, it isn't going to sell out anytime soon. Why not save some money, not support ticketmaster and buy from Zulu or Scratch? (It puts more money in the asrtists pocket that way too)

just a warning that if you're going to Zulu/Scratch to get a ticket for a show that's coming up soon, then you're actually paying more than you would at Ticketmaster. When they run out of their cheap tickets they buy more from Ticketmaster and then resell them, adding their own charge on top of that.
This happens time and again for shows that are popular but not quite sold out yet. Like Ladytron recently. The week before, Scratch had tickets for $36. Ticketmaster had it for $32.
So if you're getting from Scratch/Zulu, get them early.

I doubt Zulu/Scratch go to Ticketmaster and buy more tickets. The promoter always sets the ticket price as it is negotiated in the contract w/ the band. When the record stores are out of tickets, they are out of tickets unless the promoter brings them more.
Generally, when a promoter makes a contract with Ticketmaster, they will indicated a specific allotment that Ticketmaster has exclusive right to sell. The promoter would then choose to sell the rest of the tickets via different outlets or hold some for door sales. If all of the non-Ticketmaster allotment were to be sold before the show, the promoter could take tickets from the Ticketmaster allotment at full cost (ie. buy them from Ticketmaster)and sell them elsewhere. In such a situation the promoter would likely instruct the record store to sell this "new" allotment of tickets at the cost they "paid" Ticketmaster for them.
The margin would be so low, and the risk too great, for either Zulu or Scratch to get into the brokering business....(not to mention the ethical questions)

I heard from somewhere that that's what Zulu/Scratch does (buy more tix from TM). In any case, I always get my tix way in advance.
As for the Ladytron concert, it did not look like a sell-out, by any means. People were still buying tickets at the booth that night. That poor scalper dude must have lost a bit o' money that night (I flipped him 2 extra tix). It was an awesome concert, though. Much better than I expected.
