A bunch of youth related activities...
First, the Safe Amplification Site Society:
The Safe Amplification Site Society is a non-profit society dedicated to establishing a permanent all-ages space for music and other arts events in Vancouver. This new space will be financially sustainable and legal in every way. It will be alcohol and drug free, and will be available for any person to organize any kind of event, free of charge. Admission costs for all events at the space will be kept affordable: usually five dollars or less.Hit their website to find out how you can get involved or find them on Friendster 3.0.
Members of the Safe Amplification Site Society will also organize music and arts events at other existing spaces in Vancouver. Any member can organize an event under the Society’s name, provided it is legal, affordable and accessible to people of all ages.
We are currently raising money and community support in order to make our permanent venue become a reality. If you would like to get involved, please don’t be shy! Become a member, donate money, be our friend (on myspace, facebook, or in real life), and tell everyone you know about this project and why it’s so urgently needed in Vancouver.
Next, Rock and Roll is Good for Kids is an initiative started by Adrienne Grant and Burnside (of Tight Solid). It's a non-profit that's been set-up to raise funds and supplies for at-risk, inner city kids, with an emphasis on the arts. Their first initiative is a fundraising show on June 6th at the Astoria featuring Shad K, Twin Crystals, and Brasstronaut live on stage and Expendable Youth between sets, behind the decks. Even if you can't make the show, you can find out how to help out at their website.
And last, but certainly not least, Girls Rock Camp Vancouver is "an empowering journey to allow females from ages 8-18 years, to have the opportunity to explore, access and play music with positive mentors, surroundings and workshops." If you made it down to the Cobalt on Tuesday, you already supported this great cause, but check their website for more ways to get involved.
That's your good news post for the week... tomorrow, I'll follow up with something stolen or something shutting down to make everyone feel good and normal again.
About 12 more hours to get an extra entry into the Sled Island Contest.

how about you post about the final seylynn hall show, just to restore peace and order to vancouver?
It would be cool if you could mention something... anything... about the May 29 Way to Go, Einstein CD-release show at the Biltmore. (With Junior Major and Fake Shark Real Zombie.) Or at least add it to your calendar. Thanks.
