long way home
I made it down to First Friday at the El Dorado to catch White Lung, Nu Sensae, and Black Wizard.
It was my first time at the El Dorado since they started putting shows on. The stage is only about a foot off the ground (a la Pat's before they raised their's), but the sound was decent, and the beer special was cheap.
It was my first time checking out Black Wizard, who were already half way through some sweet stoner-metal jams when I showed up. By the end of their set I was sort of kicking myself for waltzing in late.
Daniel and Andrea were their usually wonderful selves: loud, fast, and heavy.
White Lung finished things off with a set of mostly new songs that are making me even more excited to hear their forthcoming debut long player. I was worried when they lost their guitarist, but after seeing them a couple of times with Kenny, it seems that everything sounds just fine.
Oh, and in case you haven't noticed, that "Olympics" thing starts on Friday. I was gong to get something together, but got too lazy to wade through the Cultural Olympiad website (for all that money, you think could design a better website). Don't fret though. The Straight's got a calendar of free shows and Discorder has their picks up (from free up to really expensive) in the latest issue, and I'm sure both of them do a better job than I would have. Let that be a lesson to you: if you procrastinate long enough, someone will do the job for you.

thanks!
whoops. I was asleep at the wheel there. sorry
fixed now.
in love with black wizard and white lung. black wizard is the best new band I've seen in forever and white lung seem more cohesive with the new guitar player. last chick was good but the overall sound is better with the guy IMO.

, atthe last "chick" from White Lung has a new band called Animal Bodies. Awesome industrial-style moog-y grunge! Peep it. Something a little more interesting than White Lung, IMHO.

mmm. I personally like White Lung better. sorry :( the girl's a good guitar player but she shouldn't be singing. Excited for white lung's new full length too!!

Don't get me wrong, I like White White Lung, but I think Animal Bodies is on to something a bit more interesting. White Lung are doing some great revivalist work, but not a lot of new ground being broken there. We'll see where AB goes...
As for her singing, it's a little understated, and I've only witnessed it live but it's not that bad. A few more shows under her belt and the confidence will be there. White Lung started off the same way.

Went to the show on Friday to see Black Wizard and ended up having my ass handed to me by White Lung. Can't believe I haven't seen these guys before.
