i got the beats to make you bang

M.I.A. returns to Vancouver to headline a show a month ahead of her Gwen Stefani opening slot. She plays the Commodore with fellow Diplo collaborator, Spank Rock, on October 7th. Tickets are on sale this Friday at 10am for $25+charges. My girlfriend is psyched for this one. To get you equally excited, here's a track that criminally got left off of Arular after the advances went out.

download: M.I.A. - You're Good

Heavy Trash (aka Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray) play Richard's on October 28th. The Sadies open the show, and serve as backing band for the headliners. Tickets also on sale this Friday.

The Magic Numbers play Richard's on November 6th. Unlike the last two, this doesn't go on sale Friday...

But My Morning Jacket does.

Shout Out Louds rock Richard's the same night as the might Broken Social Scene hit the Commodore (November 13th).

Speaking of... We all know that ticketmaster are total bastards, but the $10 "service" fees on the $25 BSS ticket was a little out of hand.

now playing: Jeff Tweedy and Jay Bennett - I Got You (at the End of the Century) (live in Toronto)

hey quinn, have you heard the new Wolf Parade record? I just got the advance from subpop and I must say that it's (wait for it) truth.

the BSS show is $30 at Zulu, and only $35 at TM with the service charges. where did you get a ticket for $25?

By Anonymous josh, at 4:57 PM

I think the $10 is on top of the $25, making the ticket $35.

that is, $10 on top of the $25.. i was too impatient to get one at Zulu and save half the service fee.

Graham: yes I have... how'd you manage to snag an advance?

By Blogger Quinn, at 9:28 PM

Got tix from Scratch. Apparently they have tons because they forgot to put up the posting for the show on their board. About $29 there.

By Anonymous Yuki, at 10:39 PM

i got the advance because i'm now reviewing cds and books for a student paper out here...subpop, whut.

By Blogger Graham, at 10:53 PM

yeah, i was impatient too. oh well, shit happens.

Does anyone know the presale password for the Arcade Fire tickets? I'm desperate!

Antony and the Johnsons and the Magic Numbers are hitting Vancouver? Sigh, know what's worse than missing that?

Missing them knowing that they're playing 1 mile away from my place but I'm too poor to see them.

I miss cheap Vancouver shows that never sell out. People, don't take these shows for granted. Go. to any and every show you can!

love aleks
(by the way, they went crazy for Stars' show here last week. Everywhere I go, I hear they're 'the next arcade fire' - brilliant.)

yo, did you know saul williams was touring with my morning jacket? he's fucking amazing, i saw him open for mars volta the second time i saw them, just crazy good.

are you going to that show then?

By Anonymous JC, at 12:26 PM

nyet... i dont like mmj.

Using Quinn's blog to talk to other people, holla!

Graham- Wolf Parade album= (ahem)truth, mo'focka. Way to score the cd reviewing gig at U of T, I'm sure you will bring some serious excellency to the relatively sober campus "scene" you have been describing to me.

Josh- I owe you 35 bones. Don't let me forget that.
