2. Art of Dying
3. A Sheep at the Wheel (tie)
3. Marianas Trench (tie)

Local Band
"Bif Naked—not a band, but she's our best local musician!"
1. Nickelback
2. New Pornographers (tie)
2. 54-40 (tie)
3. Stabilo (tie)
3. Hot Hot Heat (tie)
Ok seriously... dear god that's terrible. I think I've heard of Mariana's Trench, but who the hell are the other three bands? It's like some parallel, evil, local music scene exists in some parallel, evil, alternate universe (which, in retrospect, is probably those venues on Granville St. that aren't the Yale or Commodore). And, people actually like Nickelback? And are willing to admit it? I thought people from Vancouver were embarrassed about that. I always tell people they're "actually from Alberta - makes sense now, doesn't it?" I'm baffled.

Wait...
Bar
1. The Roxy Night Club
932 Granville Street
these results are starting to make sense now. Similar to the "liking Nickeback" thing, I didn't think anyone willingly admitted that they go to the Roxy either. I'm starting to think I live a sheltered life.

now playing: Regina Spektor - Us

Funny enough I've seen all of those bands except On Holiday..

A Sheep at The Wheel won the UBC Battle of the Bands 2 yrs ago...pretty sure it's Christian Rock.

Art of Dying was one of those Fox Seeds bands I think - they sound like Nickelback (more than most)

LOL. I just got home, grabbed the straight on the way. Now, you've made me afraid to open and read it. Nickelback, seriously??? its all i can say. I met this guy at school and asked him what his favorite band was and he said either nickelback or theory of a deadman. I just stared at him and thought poor poor boy.

If anyone should have one, it should be the new pornographers. Their show at the commodore should be awesome!

^^ Edit: Plaza... i forgot.

eww that's terrible! nickelback and bif naked ehhhhhhhhh.

By Blogger My Name Is Fenny, at 9:22 p.m.

lol, this is hilarious... nickelback makes sense cos they're (unfortunately) very popular, but 54-40? really? do these people actually pay attention to the music scene?

and the best new local band... looks like some people got a bunch of friends together and decided to stuff the ballot box... out of the four, i've only heard of marianas trench -- and i saw them back in 2003, so they're not that new (and not very good, iirc)

best new local band (1 record or less): bella

By Blogger Hanson, at 12:53 a.m.

When you have a tie for second place you're not supposed to have a third place; you're supposed to skip to fourth.

By Blogger Jeremy Lagrange Gryffoyn, at 12:23 p.m.

@ Kaitlin, True but its the most alternative we have here. And its free so i guess we can't complain that much about the way they present it.
@ Hanson, Bella is amazing. I saw them last night and they are super nice.

I agree, Bella is the best new local band. Go see them with The New Pornographers on Oct 22!
