grim fandango

Some very bad news... not only because it means the Islands/Cadence Weapon show is cancelled tomorrow, but because Mesa Luna closing is a huge blow to the all ages music scene in this city, and to the scene in general.

Off the top of my head, and just in the last 3-4 years, I can think of a whole wack of amazing shows there:
- Hot Hot Heat playing with the Red Light Sting, Three Inches, New Town Animals, and Operation Makeout right before they got big
- The Arcade Fire
- The Blood Brothers a whole bunch of times
- The Red Light Sting's last show ever

and tons more...

In fact, I had a short lived band, and we even played there.

So to recap: Mesa Luna is closing, tomorrow's show is cancelled, the whole situation is really shitty.

Islands ticket refunds can be sought at your point of purchase.

now playing: Cat Power - We Dance (Pavement Cover)

that gives a wtf moment? wow, first the Vogue, now Mesa Luna, there won't be any places left for all agers. don't even get me started on Richards on Richards. *sigh*

It's especially sad that we are asked to get refunds for it now.

I've heard rumours that the Built to Spill show won't happen either.

It does make it easier to see Secret Machines and Fiery Furnaces. We can't complain about Vancouver being a bad place to see stuff. But we can.

That sucks, and I was planning on going to the Islands gig a while back, but I never got around to buying tickets...

In reply to that comment I left awhile back about Daniel Cutler (because I can't remember the heading or the date of the post), you should try for a media pass next year!

And here I was all excited to go to my first all-ages show since Seylynn Hall. What's a girl to do without Rollie!!!

Nice Slow entry, too.

UGH whaaaaaaaaat.

:(
this sucks. since the mesa luna is practically the only cheap all ages venue.

ugh.

is there a backstory to the mesa luna shutting down?

as much as disliking going to all-ages shows, this is indeed terrible news for the vancouver music scene. now, the only viable, club-sized all-ages venue is the atrocious croatian cultural centre. yikes! i feel bad for the kiddies... now it's even harder for them to learn the ropes of going to non-theatre/stadium shows...

I was at that Hot Hot Heat show and it still stands as one of my favourites today,
