Casbah! is back on. Actually, the weekly live show/dance party was back last week (Hallmark played), but I completely forgot. If you come here thinking you're getting correct/timely/useful info, you're going to be sadly mistaken sometimes.
Anyhow, in the past Casbah! has had its name attached to events that range from performances by local faves like Ladyhawk and They Shoot Horses Don't They? (among many others) to one of my favourite shows ever, TV on the Radio at the Pic, and this Friday they're hosting my favourite new local act, Japandroids.
Casbah! happens every week at Library Square, which is a nice room, but the drinks are usually terribly overpriced (I hang out in dives, clearly). $4 pints on Fridays though!
Tough choice between this and the Clips @ 1/2 Alive... I think I might try to swing both.
The Doers are celebrating the vinyl release of their already-out-on-cd album, Gaiety on August 24th at the Ukrainian Hall. Special Noise and Cheerleader Camp open the all-ager.
They Might Be Giants are at the Commodore on September 25th.
Mute Math are at the Commodore on September 17th... that seems like a big room for them.
On August 19th, Vanity presents Gig-Poster-Palooza at Casa del Artista. Love and Mathematics, Vincat, Sean Wesley Wood, Hills Like White Elephants, and Portraits provide the music, while a slew of local artists show off their favourite show posters.
Hylozoists and Mohawk Lodge open for the Besnard Lakes. Young Galaxy no longer does.
The Bravery open for Smashing Pumpkins. Whoever thought up this bill should get an award or something... by "something" I mean a head examination. (thanks Kevin)
Thunderheist round out the bill of the Girl Talk/the Blow show out at UBC in September. If you're thinking that you don't like going out to UBC, you should probably take a step back and realize that they could throw this show in Hell and it's still guaranteed to be awesome. Start sucking up to the students you know so they'll take you as a guest now.
Watch out for a sweet CD giveaway tomorrow. I want the prize for myself, even.
