Has anyone noticed that the theme song to "the Main" on the Food Network (see: here) is exactly the same as "I Turn My Camera On" (see above), minus the vocals?
That's either a really strange licensing agreement, or a really lazy attempt at disguising plagiarism.

I noticed that the other day too... Something tells me lazy plagiarism.

I think one can purchase music rights vs the full song rights. It's obviously cheaper just to get music rights. I remember hearing about that on a Simpsons audio commentary how they accidentally only bought the music rights... maybe it was Arrested Development.. I forget.
Holmes on Holmes (over)uses an overplayed song... it might be a Jet song, but they just play the music for it as well.
Then again... it could just be plagiarism.

Last night's Elliot Brood/Acorn show was very good.

, atThere's a commercial for javex wipes that really bothers me because it sounds like it's ripping off the final fantasy song "your light is spent." It's a slightly different melody with incoherent female lyrics, but man, everytime I hear it I get really mad. I wish there was some way of calling out javex wipes on this.

This is a disturbing recent trend, robbing many indie artists of much needed cashola. Other recent examples include an obvious rip off of the Young Folks riff for a "lets keep BC kids active" ad, and a Progressive Auto Insurance add blatantly stealing the instrumental of Regina Spektor's recent hit.
These companies should be giving credit, and cash, where it is due, or come up with their own tunage.
I proclaim this recent trend FIT FOR THE PIT!
haha, I googled the words "the main" and "spoon rip off" after watching the show for the first time today. what a blatant plagiarism! i can't see a way that spoon licensed that bass-line and allowed some dude to sing 'i eat food' or some shit over it. not cool.
good show though.
